April 2026 board meeting

The Warsaw R-IX Board of Education met March 17, 2026 for its regular monthly meeting.

Reorganization Meeting

The district did not hold an election this year, as three candidates filed for the three open board seats. The Board approved the results, and Amie Breshears, Leslie Grace, and Rich Chiles were sworn in.

During officer elections, the Board approved the following positions:

  • Amie Breshears – President

  • Leslie Grace – Vice President

  • Jodi Karr – Secretary/Treasurer

  • Amie Breshears – MSBA Delegate

Regular Board Meeting

The meeting began with student, staff, and community recognitions. The recipients included Breanna Creekmore, Warsaw North Elementary – Student Spotlight (article to be shared soon); Eunice Christenson – Classified Staff Member of the Month; Aspen Griffin – Certified Staff Member of the Month; and Michael Henderson – Wildcat Pride Award recipient.

Program Spotlights

The Board heard a presentation on the district’s 6–12 ELA program, highlighting instructional practices and student learning resources.

Budget & Financial Updates

Superintendent Scott Gemes provided a legislative update, noting recent changes to the state budget that show positive movement for K–12 education.

He also reviewed the March budget report and year-to-date financials, as well as a Fund 4 review as part of the district’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP).

Other New Business & Board Approvals

The Board approved the final upgrades to the elementary playgrounds, which will now be mulch-free.

The Board approved the K–4 Math curriculum purchase from IXL to support student learning.

The Board accepted a letter from Cole Camp indicating they will exit the district’s ECSE program after this school year.

The Board approved the substitute salary schedule, which includes an increase of $10 for certified teachers who serve as substitutes.

The Board approved the 2026 candidates for graduation.

The Board approved a bid for technology services with CoffeeTree Group, effective May 1. The company will provide additional on-site and remote support alongside current staff during the transition.

The Board also reviewed plans to retain and relocate the South Elementary fuel tank to the high school transportation department.

Personnel Updates

During closed session, the Board accepted two resignations and three new hires. Additionally, the Board approved summer custodial staff, classified staff for the 2026–2027 school year, and the extra duty list for the 2026–2027 school year. All probationary and tenure teacher contracts were also approved.

Due to senior events, the next regular meeting of the Warsaw R-IX Board of Education has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the HS/JBMS Library.
